The UD Summer Student Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program is an innovative
partnership of the Department of Visual Arts, ArtStreet, and Student Development. The
program enlists UD student artists during the summer to create artworks for permanent
installation in residence halls and learning spaces. Each artist is “commissioned” by the facility manager to address a problem area of the designated space. Faculty advisors guide
students though a ten week process of site analysis, research, model making, proposal
preparation, and artmaking.
The program was piloted in 2007, in which site-specific artworks were created for 5 residential facilities across campus. Five students have been selected for the 2009 program, which runs from May 18 through July 24.
